The Central Testing Laboratory of the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council launched the “Hormone Residual Examination in Medicines, Food and Dietary Supplements” service to support its regulatory partners and the private sector.
Engineer Abdullah Hassan Al-Maeeni, Executive Director of the Central Testing Laboratory Sector at the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council, said that the laboratory has developed capabilities to examine hormone residues in specific types of food, medical drugs and nutritional supplements, with the aim of improving the quality of life, safety and community happiness in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and to complete the innovation process that the Council pursues it by providing services that enhance the health and safety of the consumer, as the quality and safety of food and medicine play an important and direct role in the health of the consumer, adding the ability to examine hormone residues in foodstuffs, medical drugs and nutritional supplements contributes to supporting the initiatives of the Council’s partners from the regulatory and supervisory authorities in verification. From the safety of food and medicine traded in the markets of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
Al Maeeni added that the preliminary list of hormones that are examined has been determined in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, the strategic partner of the laboratory. Hormones are most commonly used in food products and also by athletes, and their presence causes many health problems.
Abdullah Al Maeeni emphasized that the new examination service is currently effective, and relies on the latest and most advanced laboratory equipment in this field to provide the most accurate results, quickly and efficiently.
On her part, Her Excellency Dr. Mariam Hareb Al Suwaidi, Executive Director of the Supervision Sector at the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, said: “We appreciate the efforts made by the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council in their endeavor to meet the needs and requests of government agencies for laboratory testing services, including the development of testing for hormone residues, based on the distinguished partnership and coordination.
The continuous examination between the authority and the council, as the examination of the remaining hormones in foodstuffs is considered one of the important tests of the authority and the development of this type of tests strengthens the control processes and contributes to achieving the authority’s goal towards developing a sector with sustainable development in the field of agriculture and food safety in order to achieve more prosperity and well-being for society. .
It is worth noting that the central examination laboratory provides its services to the regulatory and supervisory authorities and the industrial sector in several areas such as safety and quality checks for food products, water and beverages, and environmental checks in addition to cosmetics, medicines, medical devices and building materials, and the central laboratory also serves its partners from the industrial sector through scientific research services and consultations. And specialized training services and issuance of conformity certificates.
