The Abu Dhabi Center for Waste Management – Tadweer announced the launch of the first marine waste tanker “marine ferry” at the level of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in the Al Dhafra Region, in line with its continuous efforts to provide collection, transportation, and treatment of solid waste, sweeping and cleaning streets according to the highest quality standards. To preserve all aspects of health, hygiene, environment, and public safety.
The tanker, which is the first of its kind in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, was inaugurated on Delma Island in the Al Dhafra region, where the ferry will be used to transport and transfer all types of waste that will be collected on the island and transported to the Ruwais landfill on a daily and regular basis.
The marine tanker will provide great efforts at the level of transport operations by providing the opportunity to transport double quantities compared to traditional transport mechanisms and methods, as it will carry large-sized containers of waste and waste resulting from daily use in all areas of the island.
The marine ferry is characterized by a length of approximately 26 meters and a cargo capacity of 79 tons, while its supervising crew consists of 6 persons, two pilots, a mechanic, an electrician and two assistants on a permanent basis.
The working team supervising the ferry exerts great efforts to complete all scheduled operations professionally and accurately, as the ferry transports and deports approximately 6 flights per week from the island, where the amount of waste transported per week is estimated at 200 tons.
His Excellency Dr. Salem Khalfan Al Kaabi, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Center for Waste Management – Tadweer said: “The launch and inauguration of the first marine tanker at the level of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi came as a natural result of the intensive work that the center is always doing in order to find radical solutions throughout the emirate to develop an integrated system for managing Waste, in line with the directives of the Abu Dhabi government aiming at preserving a safe and sustainable environment and keeping it free from all aspects of pollution that may be caused by wastes of all kinds and forms.
His Excellency affirmed that the launch of this distinguished marine tanker came as an implementation and rapid translation of the directives of the wise leadership calling for the need to continue providing all cleaning services and maintaining the general appearance on Dalma Island in accordance with the highest international quality standards and modern technologies as an ancient historical tourist interface with stunning landscapes and charming beauty.
It is noteworthy that the Abu Dhabi Center for Waste Management – Tadweer is the main government agency responsible for all activities related to the development of waste management services, including collection, transportation, treatment and safe disposal in an effective and economic manner throughout the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, in addition to combating public health pests. Environmental awareness among the residents of the emirate of the importance of preserving the environment and encouraging them to practice and adopt sound environmental behavior that would advance sustainable development.
