Nawah Energy Company, affiliated to the joint consortium between the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation and the Korean Electric Power Company (KEPCO), which is responsible for operating and maintaining the Barakah Peaceful Nuclear Energy Plants, has celebrated the graduation of the first group of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plants Management Certificate Program, which included seven of Specialized Emirati competencies.

Nawah Energy Company developed this program with the aim of building and developing Emirati competencies and expertise, specifically in the technology used in the Barakah peaceful nuclear power plants, which is the cornerstone of the UAE’s peaceful nuclear program.

Engineer Ali Al Hammadi, CEO of Nawah Energy Company, and Paul Harden, Executive Director of Nuclear Operations at the company, supervised the launch of this program at the beginning of the year 2020 at the Nawah Training Center in Abu Dhabi before completing virtual training within the framework of the measures taken by the corporation and its subsidiaries to confront the emerging Corona virus. Covid 19 “.

The training program, which lasted for 16 weeks, consisted of three phases, which included general basics on nuclear energy and the systems of the Barakah peaceful nuclear power plants, as well as practical simulation training.

The program was designed by the Training Department at Nawah Energy Company specifically to suit the diversity of experiences, knowledge and technical skills of the company’s employees, with a special focus on the advanced energy reactor / APR-1400 / which is one of the latest nuclear technologies used in the Barakah Nuclear Power Plants.

Engineer Ali Al Hammadi, Chief Executive Officer of Nawah Energy, said: “I am pleased to witness the graduation of the first group of Emirati competencies from the Barakah Nuclear Power Plants Management Certificate program developed by Nawah Energy Company, which is the first of its kind in the country, as this distinguished group of graduates showed a great level. From commitment, technical expertise and hard work to become the future leaders of the UAE’s peaceful nuclear program. “

He added: “Since the establishment of the Nawah Energy Company, the company has devoted its efforts to developing a generation of Emirati expertise specialized in the nuclear energy sector due to its belief in the utmost importance of these experiences to ensure the sustainability of the UAE’s peaceful nuclear program and after the successful start of the safe operation of the first plant reactor and linking the plant to the main electricity grid in the country and the station reaching With 50 percent of its production capacity, members of this group of graduates will be able to play a pivotal role in managing the operations of the four nuclear plants in Barakah, as well as contributing to the economic and social prosperity of the UAE for decades to come.

The seven candidates were selected and approved to participate in the first version of the program by the “Emirates Competencies Committee” at Nawah Energy Company, as they showed outstanding efficiency and great dedication and were able to pass all evaluations and tests despite the circumstances and challenges imposed by “Covid 19”.

These seven graduates form part of the growing Emirati competencies in the nuclear energy sector and occupy leadership positions in various fields and departments in Nawah. The diversity of knowledge of these graduates and their multiple viewpoints have enriched the training program.

The Emirati Competencies Committee at Nawah Energy Company is responsible for launching and implementing initiatives for developing human competencies in line with the company’s continuous endeavors for excellence as well as ensuring the sustainability of the UAE’s peaceful nuclear program by developing the next generation of Emirati leaders for the program.

It is noteworthy that the “Barakah Nuclear Power Plants Management Certification Program” launched by Nawah Energy Company is the first of its kind in the UAE and the region, which reflects the company’s commitment to following the highest standards of safety, quality and security in operations and maintenance at Barakah plants.
