The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation announced that its subsidiary Nawah Energy Company, which is responsible for operating and maintaining the Barakah peaceful nuclear power plants, has achieved a new achievement, represented by the arrival of the first plant reactor in Barakah to 100 percent of its production capacity in a step that paves the way for operation. Commercial at the beginning of the year 2021.
This achievement means that the first plant in Barakah produces 1,400 megawatts, making it the largest single source of electrical energy in the UAE.
Barakah stations have become the largest source of environmentally friendly primary load electricity in the UAE, capable of providing a stable, reliable and sustainable supply of energy around the clock, as this achievement contributes to accelerating the process of reducing the carbon footprint of the energy sector and supporting the state’s efforts to diversify its energy portfolio during the phase. Transition to environmentally friendly energy sources.
This exceptional achievement was achieved a few days after the celebration of the 49th National Day, to provide a tangible example of the country’s great progress in developing a safe and sustainable energy sector, and a prosperous future for the country.
As the UAE moves forward to achieve more achievements in the next 50 years, the four Barakah plants, when operational, will provide 25 percent of the country’s electrical energy needs to support progress and sustainable development for the coming decades and beyond.
In this regard, His Excellency Mohamed Ibrahim Al Hammadi, CEO of the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation, said, “The first station in Barakah represents a new era in the energy sector and the future of the emission-free economy in the country, as it has become the largest source of energy free of emissions.”
He added, “We are also proud of the Emirati competencies that work side by side with global expertise working in plants to provide environmentally friendly electric power to the UAE according to the highest international standards of safety, security and quality.”
Nawah Energy Company is responsible for operating the first plant in Barakah, as its operating team has worked to increase the energy levels in the plant’s reactor in a steady, gradual and safe manner, since the plant’s operation began in July 2020 and connected to the main electricity grid in August 2020.
The arrival of the first plant in Barakah to 100 percent of its production capacity falls within the final steps of the upward energy test. The next step will be to conduct some tests and then stop operating the plant reactor completely and safely in preparation for the start of the final and final tests, which include a series of safety tests and work. Maintenance to ensure the station is ready for commercial operation at the beginning of next year.
