Dark spots on the face, chest, hands, or anywhere else on the body can be very frustrating because they appear so suddenly and sometimes my eyes cannot be covered with concealers. So, what are these colors, mostly, dark spots on the skin can be attributed to two reasons:

  • Scarring
  • Hyperpigmentation

Dark spots are also known as hyperpigmentation and can be the result of scarring or sun damage. The scars can be divided into two categories:

  • Dark marks that are actually the result of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which appear as dark or pink marks
  • A change in the texture of the skin that results in raised scars

Some people may have stigmata due to genetics.

Here’s how to treat dark spots naturally:

Papaya scrub

Exfoliate the top layer of the threshold with a natural exfoliant like papaya. Papaya contains fruit acids known as alpha hydroxy acids, which are a chemical exfoliant. Alpha Hydroxy Acids are used for dry and anti-aging skin, and they improve the complexion by removing the upper layers of the skin by weakening the lipids that bind them together, thus removing dull and dead skin cells and revealing healthy skin cells. It is very effective at breaking down skin cells and also increasing collagen production due to removing dead particles. Papaya specifically will help brighten and brighten the complexion. To treat dark spots with papaya, simply mash ripe papaya in a bowl and apply as a cleansing mask. When removing the mask, you can also use gentle circular motions to exfoliate the top layer of dead skin cells.

Turmeric to unify skin color

Turmeric has many healing properties, from reducing inflammation to aiding digestion. Turmeric’s benefits also extend to skin care, and it has been shown to suppress melanin production in the skin, leading to spots due to hyperpigmentation. To fade dark spots with turmeric, make a mask using 1 part turmeric to 1 part honey. You can boost the lightening process with a few drops of lemon juice.

Almond oil

Almond oil used in cooking differs from almond oil used on the skin, which is often fortified with additional vitamins and minerals. Almond oil contains vitamin E and niacin, which help treat hyperpigmentation and improve skin tone. Since sweet almond oil does not clog pores, you can add it to your nighttime routine as a makeup remover or moisturizer to help protect the skin barrier.

Yogurt

You can use yogurt to lighten the skin naturally as it works to lighten the appearance of dark spots by exfoliating the skin. Like the chemical exfoliating properties found in papaya, yogurt breaks down dead skin cells thanks to the lactic acid found naturally in dairy products.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes are naturally rich in lycopene, which has multiple health benefits, including sun protection.

Aloe Vera

Dark spots may not be caused by hyperpigmentation, but by scarring, which can appear particularly on those with skin rich in melanin. Scars are unpredictable, which makes them difficult to treat. The softer your skin is, the less likely it will be scarring, so adding moisture to the skin with oils and lotions can reduce the appearance and prevent new spots from forming. You can drink aloe vera juice or apply it to the skin as a moisturizer or skin treatment by breaking the leaves of the aloe vera plant and applying the adhesive substance to the affected area. Aloe vera has soothing and moisturizing properties.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is one of the most effective natural ingredients you can rely on to lighten spots and prevent new ones from forming.

Using retinol helps boost cell turnover to remove the top layers of skin and fade hyperpigmentation. Look for skin-lightening ingredients like hydroquinone, kojic acid, phytic acid, and ascorbic acid. You can also eat foods rich in vitamin C, such as oranges and spinach. While some people prefer to lighten dark spots with lemon juice, others find the high acid content to be too intense on the skin and choose to take vitamin C.
