Charity Hospital Hamdan bin Rashid: A first in UAE

Recently, Dh220 million was collected for the UAE’s first charity hospital, to be named after the late Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid. These funds will be put towards introducing a hospital that specializes in care for cancer. The charity hospital is named after the late Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum to honor everything he did for the country through his generosity and humanitarian efforts.

About The Charity Hospital

The Hamdan Bin Rashid Cancer Charity Hospital has 250 beds and the building is spread across 50,000 square meters.  Its construction will be in two phases, with hopes to establish 150 beds in the first phase. This will enable the hospital to provides services for around 30,000 patients annually. It aims to provide free, all-around treatment for cancer, starting from prevention and diagnosis to palliative care.

The Hamdan Bin Rashid Cancer Charity Hospital is anticipated to be established in 2023. It hopes to integrate innovation, knowledge, modern healthcare technologies, and new wellbeing approaches. It will provide qualified medical specialists and state-of-the-art technologies. Additionally, the hospital will support research on cancer and train medical experts for improved services. This will be done to fulfill the UAE’s goal to be a world leader in cancer treatment facilities.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Al Jalila Foundation said that health is the biggest priority. He felt that they have a duty to try and enhance the welfare of the most disadvantaged sections in the community. The hospital will achieve this as it attempts to pay homage to one of the world’s best philanthropists, Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid. He said that they were proud to join as one to provide high-quality, accessible medical care for everyone, and thereby add on to Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid’s legacy.

Behind The Scenes

The Al Jalila Foundation is devoting Dh750 million to this initiative. For the initial phase of construction and the first year of the hospital’s working alone, the foundation will require Dh480 million. The donor names for the enterprise were revealed in a special event.

The donors are Sheikh Ahmed, Easa Saleh Al Gurg, Mohammed Ibrahim Obaidullah, Hamad bin Ahmad bin Sougat, the family of the late Abdulla Hassan Al Rostamani, the family of the late Abdel Wahid Hasan Al Rostamani, Abdul Rahim Mohammed Belghozooz Al Zarooni, Abdul Hameed Ahmed Seddiqi, Faizal E. Kottikollon, Shabana Faizal, Dr. Rajen A. Kilachand, Raghuvinder Kataria, and PNC Menon.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum had attended this ceremony. He particularly emphasized Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid’s selfless philanthropic efforts and modesty through which he was able to change millions of people’s lives.  He had been especially invested in the education and healthcare sector and took care of orphans all through his life. The result of his labors is evident all over Dubai. He celebrated Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid for being more generous than was required of him, and for silently and tirelessly contributing for the sake of humanity.
