Sky Pods in Sharjah To Run At A Speed Of 120kmph

Sharjah’s sky pods are all set to zip people through the city at an average speed of 120-125 kmph. This will enable travelers in the UAE to journey up to 2.4 km in less than a minute. A lengthier test track for the sky pod will start working before the Dubai Expo 2020 in October.

About The Sky Pods

The sky pods have four seats and operate on a string rail technology. Their speed at the moment is 40kmph while dangling from an emerging track of 400 meters. The passenger model can hold up to four tons and the cargo version can transport up to 12m containers. There is a VIP option for U cars which can contain 4 people and U buses that can bear as many as 16 passengers.

Thus, there are a variety of versions available that can be linked together like a train. As per the footfall and the needs and wants of the consumer, it can be modified. Blockchain could be used for ticketing. All of this is being discussed with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

Oleg Zaretskiy said that the first project is all set to be introduced in Sharjah, with the tracks being integrated into the local network. Two 2.4km tracks are being built presently, of which one is expected to be done by October-November, before Expo 2020. The other one is expected to be done by May 2022. It can hit a speed of 150kmph. To make it even faster, they are currently working on an idea that will accelerate the speed limit to 500kmph.

Why It Is The Future

Oleg Zaretskiy, chief executive of uSky Transport said that in addition to their increased speed, these pods are also going to be less expensive compared to other modes of transport that presently exist in the world. uSky Transport is one of the two companies behind this new technology, the other one being Unitsky String Technologies of Belarus. These inventors believe their revolutionary technology to be the future.

However, before they can be commercially introduced for use, the sky pods need to go through a lot more supervisory steps and requirements. For instance, because of UAE’s particular climatic conditions, which involve a dust-filled environment, the sky pods now have impellers on them. This enhances the working of the sky pods by dealing with the dust that enters the rail and settles on it. Based on the local weather, the sky pod system undergoes frequent modifications. At the moment, testing work is proceeding without any hurdles. Safety trials have been conducted successfully.

Sky pods will hopefully solve issues related to overcrowding. It takes up less energy and land, is cheaper and more efficient. Since mobility is an international concern, ground-breaking and effective projects like uSky is believed to go global.
