360 people of different nationalities participated in the Kingfish Hunting Competition at the Al Dhafra Sea Festival, while social media platforms witnessed heavy circulation of fishing participants who compete to catch the largest kingfish fish.
The Al Dhafra Marine Festival, organized by the Committee for the Management of Cultural and Heritage Festivals and Programs in Abu Dhabi and the Abu Dhabi Sailing and Yachting Club, continues its heritage and modern marine races for the sixth consecutive day, which will continue until April 3 on the beach of Al Mirfa in the Al Dhafra region in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region.
Obaid Khalfan Al Mazrouei, Director of Planning and Projects Department at the Cultural and Heritage Festivals and Programs Management Committee in Abu Dhabi, said that the Kingfish Hunting Competition at the Al Dhafra Sea Festival has witnessed over the past six days a great turnout to participate in the competition, indicating that the registration for the competition is open until April 3 next. Those wishing to participate can register via the website /fish.aldhafrafestival.com/ and obtain the participation number on the festival website daily from 9 am to 6 pm.
He added that the festival’s organizing committee began receiving the entries from the second day of the competition, and the largest weight of 33 kg reached 600 grams, while the lowest weight was 16 kilograms and 100 grams, indicating that fishing sites were distributed across the emirates of the country.
He stressed that the method of fishing adopted in the competition is fishing with a mandrake / scraping / with a hook or a traditional thread, and fishing by the method of weaving of all kinds is not allowed / hayla, brassim, nylon, marine pistol, manhla or poi and all other means /.
He noted that the conditions of the competition are to adhere to the terms of security and safety according to the rules and regulations followed in the country / the Facilities Protection Agency and the Abu Dhabi Environment Authority /, and that the weight of the fish is not less than 15 kilograms, and the fish and its weight are delivered at the committee’s office at the festival site, from 8 am to 6 pm.
