From 2009, Mubadala World Tennis Championship has been a celebration to the people of the Middle East as it brings the World’s greatest to their Gulf courts. What can we expect from this season? Why should you be excited about this championship? Here’s everything you should know.

The History Behind
The exhibition tournament was first pitched to promote Tennis in the Middle East and to create a world-class championship event in the region. Until 2016, only Men’s singles were played. From 2017, for the past three championships, Women’s singles were also included.
The King of Clay, Rafael Nadal is the defending champion of the Mubadala World Tennis and Maria Sharapova won the Women’s singles in 2019. Nadal is also the one with the most titles to his name. From the 6 finals he played, he won 5 times. The Serbian master, Novak Djokovic has 4 titles to his name.
December 16 to 18, 2021 – The Stars are Returning to the Battlefield
This season, the championship is returning to the Zayed Sports City’s International Tennis Centre in Abu Dhabi from December 16 to 18. We can expect the courts to spit fire because of the likes of the announced players – Rafael Nadal, Casper Ruud, Denis Shapovalov, Andrey Rublev, and Dominic Thiem. The sixth player hasn’t been announced yet.
For the Women’s singles, Belinda Bencic, the Tokyo Olympics gold winner, would be taking on Emma Raducanu. The 19-year-old Emma is the 2021’s US Open champion.

In the Tennis village, you can even meet the players in person. The complete details haven’t been updated yet. But opportunities would be created to let the visitors interact with the players.
Player clinics sessions would be conducted to give tips to the interested to teach them how to improve their game. You can also visit the players’ practice sessions. You can watch and learn their techniques from a close distance.

The aim of an exhibition tournament is to increase the interest in the sport among the local population. By planning it as a family-friendly event, you can take your kids to the stadium to watch the games. There are interactive games, activities, and prizes planned for the kids.
