His Highness indicated that the development approach pursued by the UAE requires the creation and implementation of ideas that help meet the development requirements in a manner that takes into account the environmental dimension, which is receiving all the attention in our country, which is evident through the projects, initiatives and programs that are implemented either by the government or in cooperation with the private sector. In order to achieve the highest levels of sustainability, which is one of the important guarantees for building a future free from challenges that may constitute a burden on society.

This came during the briefing of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, accompanied by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Supreme Chair of the Emirates Airline Group, on a set of Dubai Municipality projects in the field of sustainability and environmental preservation, whose total value reaches to 6.6 billion dirhams, the most important of which is the “Dubai Center for Waste Treatment” in the Warsan area, which is one of the largest energy projects in the world in terms of absorptive capacity, with investments amounting to four billion dirhams, with a capacity of about one thousand trucks per day, and he was also briefed on the public beaches development project In Dubai, the project to develop the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary, as well as the first open park on the Mamzar Creek will be built within the “Green Dubai” project.
His Highness listened to an explanation from His Excellency Eng. Dawood Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality about the details of the mega project that will be implemented in the Warsan area and is among the most important infrastructure projects that will meet the current and future needs of the emirate in the context of developing and enhancing the capabilities of vital infrastructure and its sustainability, within the framework of Dubai’s vision. To become the most sustainable and smart city in the world, as the project contributes to preserving the environment and reducing carbon emissions, as part of Dubai’s strategy for the shift towards clean energy.
This project is one of the largest projects of its kind in the world in terms of the absorptive capacity of treating waste and converting it into energy in the world with a capacity of 5,666 tons per day, and the most efficient, where heat will be converted into energy with an efficiency of up to 32% using the latest technology without any negative environmental impacts It will be constructed and implemented in one go.
The center will treat about 1.9 million tons of solid waste annually, and it will generate 200 megawatts of electrical energy, equivalent to the needs of 135,000 housing units on an ongoing basis. The first phase of the project is expected to be completed in 2023, provided that the project is fully ready in 2024. .
The project includes several basic buildings on a construction area of 350,000 square meters, which are: a waste weight unit, 27 gates to receive the waste, a waste storage room 143 meters long and a depth of 11 meters, equivalent to 5 floors, and five furnaces for incineration with a temperature of 1,100 degrees Celsius. And steam generation, electricity generation area, 15,000 gas refineries, in addition to a 70-meter chimney, treatment and separation area for minerals from ash from waste burning, and a yard for collecting and stirring the formed ash.
Public Beaches Development
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was also briefed on the “Dubai Public Beaches Development” project, one of the development projects aimed at strengthening public beaches with an integrated infrastructure of facilities, with a value of about 500 million dirhams.
The project includes developing an area of approximately one million square meters of the emirate’s beaches, starting from Khor Al Mamzar Beach to Umm Suqeim 2 Beach, and will be worked on in three phases, as the first phase will include Khor Al Mamzar Beach and Al Mamzar Corniche with a total length of 4,250 meters, Jumeirah 1 Beach and Al Shorouk Beach with a length of 2,150 meters. In the second phase, while the third phase will include the beaches of Jumeirah 3, Umm Suqeim 1 and Umm Suqeim 2, with a length of 6,015 meters.
The project provides service and recreational facilities in all public beaches to meet the needs of its users. The project includes rehabilitating beaches, increasing the areas for swimming, providing areas for practicing marine and sports activities, and allocating tracks for running and cycling, in order to encourage and develop sports and healthy lifestyles in the emirate, and to enhance the ease of access for people of determination to those Facilities and services, in addition to providing a host of other advantages.
Ras Al Khor Reserve
His Highness, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, also heard an explanation about the project “Developing Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary”, which aims to strengthen the ecosystems and biodiversity in Dubai, at a cost of about 100 million dirhams.
The project includes increasing the area of wet surfaces by 20 hectares, adding vegetation cover of mangroves with an area of more than 100 hectares, and creating service and recreational facilities that increase human connection with the environment without affecting the natural components of the reserve.
The reserve’s development includes several key elements, including the establishment of visitor reception platforms that contain panoramic halls that allow the visitor to closely follow the various types of birds and wildlife, as well as more than four kilometers of open paths camouflaged with reed plants, as well as the educational environmental center, which will allow visitors to get acquainted with On the rich natural environment of the reserve, in addition to the construction of approximately five wooden towers and open platforms distributed throughout the reserve, enabling the visitor to see wildlife closely .. The reserve will also be reinforced by an open pedestrian corridor of 3.5 km on the border of the reserve from the outside, linking the gates of the reserve. Main, as it can be used as a jogging and cycling track.
The Ras Al Khor Reserve covers approximately 6.2 square kilometers, and is the first site included in the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands in the UAE in 2007, and was classified according to the standards of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, and is considered one of the richest protected areas for wildlife in the region, as it embraces nearly 500 Kinds of trees and plants, including mangroves, which cover an area of 47 hectares of the reserve, and about 20 thousand birds visit it annually during the migration seasons, while the reserve is famous for receiving flamingos, known locally as the Fentier.
Green Dubai
The first open park on Khor Al Mamzar is part of the “Green Dubai Project” aimed at increasing greening and agricultural beautification areas in the city, raising the per capita share of green spaces, increasing the percentage of green spaces coverage within the developed areas in the emirate and contributing to raising the global competitiveness index In this area.
The implementation of the project will extend over a period of four years 2021-2024 and it is expected that approximately eight million square meters of green space will be added through 29 projects with a budget of up to two billion dirhams, which will include all commercial and residential areas and main roads in Dubai.
The project aims to increase the greening and agricultural landscaping areas in the city, especially within the main roads and roads of residential and commercial areas, including the establishment and development of infrastructure for irrigation stations and networks, which would raise the per capita share of green spaces and increase the percentage of coverage of green spaces within the developed areas in the emirate. And thus contribute to raising the city’s global competitiveness index.
The project includes the cultivation of all major non-cultivated roads such as the main intersections on Al Khail Street, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Street, Sheikh Zayed Road and Emirates Street, in addition to the roads of residential areas such as Nad Al Sheba, Al Warqa, Al Barsha, Al Barsha South, Al Khawaneej and Al Mizhar, which aim to improve the environment within the regions.
