The Sharjah Book Authority announced that it will continue to receive applications for nominations for the “Sharjah International Book Fair” awards until the first of next September.
The authority allows writers and publishers to apply for prizes in its seven categories, which are the best Emirati book / in the field of novels / the best Arab book / in the field of novel / the best Emirati book in the field of creativity / travel literature / the best Emirati book / printed on the UAE / and the best Emirati book / In the field of studies / the best foreign book / fiction / and the best foreign book / nonfiction /.
The exhibition, which will be held this year in its 39th session, seeks to encourage local innovations and support emerging talents in the Emirati community through the “Emirati Book” award, in its four categories: “Novel”, “Studies”, “Creativity” and “Theater Texts”.
The winners receive cash prizes worth 400,000 dirhams, at a rate of 100,000 dirhams, for each category. The prize in the category of “creativity” is awarded every year to a new genre, and this year it was allocated to “travel literature” in order to highlight the situations and life and human experiences that local authors have monitored.
The Commission has set a set of conditions for those wishing to apply and participate, the most prominent of which is that the participating works are new and unique in their subjects, that the first editions of them have not been issued for two years, and that the nominated copies are original and not a repetition of an old edition and it has not previously won any local, Arab or international award. .
In recognition of the role and importance of fictional work and its impact on the human cultural project, the Sharjah Book Authority allocated the award for “Best Arab Book in the Field of Fiction”, which celebrates this literary genre and supports the experiences of its innovators and pioneers in their work, and allocated 150,000 dirhams to the winner.
The commission specified for those wishing to apply and participate in a set of conditions, the most prominent of which is that the proposed book is written in classical Arabic and has new and unique content, that it has not been two years since its first edition was published, and that the work be fiction and not collections of stories or articles.
As for the “best foreign book” award, in its two categories, “best fictional foreign book” and “best realistic foreign book”, it allocated 50 thousand for each category and came with the aim of highlighting the role of foreign literary works and opening the door to communication and dialogue with various cultures of the world.
The commission has set a set of conditions for the candidates, the most prominent of which is that the submitted works should be original and unique in their subjects, that no two years have passed since the publication of their first editions, and that they have not received any award in this category until two years before their publication.
In order to promote the reality of the book industry and in honor of the publishers’ efforts, the authority allocates the “Sharjah for Honoring Publishing Houses” award, which includes three categories: the award for “best local publishing house”, the award for “best Arab publishing house” and the award for “best foreign publishing house” and allocated financial prizes worth 75 thousand dirhams, 25 thousand for each category.
The award specifies conditions for publishing houses wishing to nominate, which include that the applicant be a participant in the Sharjah International Book Fair session, have distinction in publishing and specialization, and have publications that achieve scientific benefit and meet the needs of important sectors in society.
