UAE to host COP28 (Conference of Parties) in 2023
The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) confirmed the UAE’s bid. Moments later, the Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum shared the news on Twitter. He mentioned that the nation would put all its potential and capabilities to make COP28 a successful one.
The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan mentioned that the nation is looking forward to working with the International community to address environmental protection.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan highlighted that the founding fathers of the UAE gave the highest regard for the environment and the legacy will be carried over successfully.
Towards Clean and Sustainable Future
The announcement came at a historic moment in the history of the UAE as earlier this year, they announced ‘UAE Net-Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative.’ It is an ambitious initiative to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.
Using renewable, harmless energy has been the core theme of the UAE’s approach to reducing global warming and emissions. The nation has invested more than $17 billion in renewable energy projects around the world.
UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri gave a few details from the COP28 itinerary. She mentioned that the nation will explore solutions to limit global warming to 1.5 C to leave a healthier planet for future generations.
