Sometimes, the sebaceous glands on the scalp change and produce more sebum than usual. Hence, your hair looks oily and dirty. If you have oily hair, then you should observe some recommendations to wash it properly. Have you ever wondered what steps you should follow to wash oily hair? The process is actually quite simple. The key is to stimulate the pH balance of the scalp and regulate sebum or sebum production. To achieve this, you need to know how to choose the right hair products and apply them correctly.

In this article, you’ll discover 5 tips to wash oily hair and make it less greasy.

Be careful when choosing hair products

Most hair products are designed for normal or dry hair. Its formula helps make your hair shinier and boosts moisture. However, it is not compatible with oily hair. If you are trying to prevent this problem, you better find the right formula.

Fortunately, nowadays, you can find many products that can regulate sebum production. They range from mild products to micellar products that help get rid of excess oil and scalp impurities. For example, ingredients made with green tea, citrus fruits, or aloe vera are good options.

Use cold water during the shower

The temperature of the shower water is also important. More precisely, you should avoid washing your hair with hot water. Although it removes dirt and grease, it can lead to increased sebum secretion later on.

Therefore, it is best to use warm or cold water. A good option is to start by washing your hair with warm water and finish by rinsing it with cold water to close the scalp.

Follow the correct way to apply hair products

One of the most important aspects to take into account is when to apply hair products. First, you need to think about how much shampoo to use. It depends on the length and thickness of your hair. You should use one or two tablespoons.

Next, you also need to pay attention to how you apply it. It is best to spread the shampoo all over your head and massage the scalp with your fingertips to clean up the residue accumulated on it. Finally, after rinsing your hair, apply a conditioner starting from the hair extensions to the ends.

Pay attention to how often you wash your hair

Contrary to what many may think, you don’t wash greasy hair often. As mentioned above, this tends to alter the pH level and can have the opposite effect. Therefore, it is best to wash it hair every two days. To avoid this dirty hair feeling, you can try dry shampoo.

Complete your hair care routine

In addition to the tips mentioned above, other hair care products can help you get clean, healthy hair. For example, it is a good idea to wear masks with suitable ingredients for oily hair. You can also try a scalp scrub as long as it is oil-free.
