The IPL(Indian Premier League) was postponed in early May after several players tested positive for Covid-19 in India, with 31 matches of the season still to be played; the tournament will resume with the Chennai Super Kings playing against the Mumbai Indians on September 19 in Dubai.
The remaining matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which was suspended in May due to Covid-19, will resume from September 19 in the United Arab Emirates, the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) confirmed on Sunday (25/07/2021).
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also released the schedule of the 2nd phase of IPL 2021 and the tournament is all set to begin on September 19 in Dubai. BCCI has already made it clear that the remainder of IPL 2021 will take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) this year.
“The discussions went really well and with ECB already giving us the oral nod to host the event ahead of the BCCI SGM, it was about closing the deal over the last week. The first game after the season resumes will be held on September 19 while we will have the final on October 15. The BCCI was always keen on a 25-day window to finish the remaining matches,” the official said.
The first game of the resumption will see the Chennai Super Kings play the Mumbai Indians on September 19 in Dubai, before the Kolkata Knight Riders face Royal Challengers Bangalore in Abu Dhabi the following day.
The first qualifier is scheduled for October 10 in Dubai, while the eliminator (October 11) and second qualifier (October 13) will be played in Sharjah.
Dubai will also host the final, which is due to be played on October 15.
However, but this new schedule gives just one week gap between the end of the IPL and the start of the T20 World Cup and will also cause a clash with the Caribbean Premier League.
