The FIFA Club World Cup is returning to Abu Dhabi for the fifth time. Abu Dhabi previously hosted the FIFA Club World Cup in 2009, 2010, 2017 and 2018.
On Wednesday, FIFA, the UAEFA and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council conducted a virtual press conference and made the announcement.
Football fans can now prepare for another edition of the popular tournament in 2022.
Throughout the history of FIFA in UAE, the world saw several teams emerge victoriously. Barcelona and Internazionale emerged winners in the first two editions of the FIFA Club World Cup tournament in Abu Dhabi. Real Madrid was declared the champion of the next two tournaments in 2017 and 2018.
During the conference, Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said that the people of Abu Dhabi and UAE, in general, were absolutely delighted to host the Fifa Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi for the fifth time.
“It goes without saying the competition brings both the fan-favourite clubs and players from around the world. This is tremendous honour for us. We would like to thank FIFA for the confidence and faith they have in us, based on the past successes of playing host to this immensely popular competition.”, Aref Hamad Al Awani continued.
Al Awani emphasized that Abu Dhabi would remain committed to hosting world-class sporting events every year.
It is of the utmost importance for Abu Dhabi to offer a safe environment for the event. Strict Covid protocols will be followed to ensure the safety of the players and guests. Fans would also have to adhere to the Covid-19 guidelines to ensure the safety of the event. Abu Dhabi authorities aim to make this event a resounding success.
Al Awani welcomed fans to the Club World Cup with our traditional Arabic hospitality, state-of-the-art infrastructure and stadia, with world-class travel and leisure facilities.
