The new Corona virus has killed 800,004 people in the world since it was discovered last December, out of 23,003,079 declared infections.
According to a census prepared by Agence France-Presse based on official sources today, before 11:00 GMT, Latin America and the Caribbean is the region most affected by the virus, with 254,897 deaths, and more than half of the deaths due to the disease in the world have been recorded in four countries, namely the United States “175,416” and Brazil. 113,358, 59,610 Mexico, and 55,794 India.
The number of new people infected with the Corona virus continues to infect more people in the world, in the absence of an effective medicine, while Russia recently announced the registration of the first vaccine against infection, but the announcement was met with widespread skepticism from Western countries and scientific bodies.
The Russian vaccine was criticized because it did not pass the three stages of clinical trials, and was satisfied with a limited sample of volunteers, which is not sufficient in the field of vaccines, because the latter requires great caution, because hundreds of millions of people will take a dose of it.
Earlier Friday, the World Health Organization expressed its hope that the world would be able to contain the epidemic within two years.
“We hope to end this pandemic less than two years ago,” the Director of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, told reporters in Geneva, stressing that the emerging corona virus can be controlled much faster compared to the deadly 1918 Spanish flu pandemic.
He added that “by making use of the available tools to the maximum, and hoping to obtain additional tools such as vaccines, I believe that we can end the pandemic in less time than the 1918 flu took.”
