The latest figures released by the Medical Center of the Belgian Ministry of Health in Brussels showed that an average of 437 people had tested positive for the emerging virus in Belgium during the past week.
The trend of new infections daily decreased by 15 percent during the seven-day period from August 20 to August 26. The average number of new infections with the emerging coronavirus in Belgium has decreased for several consecutive days.
The total number of confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic is 84,599.
The total reflects all people infected in Belgium, and includes confirmed active cases as well as patients who have recovered or died from the consequences of the virus.
According to official data published today in Brussels and during the period from 20 to 26 August, the authorities recorded an average of 15 new hospital admissions per day, compared to the daily average of 28 cases in the previous week.
There are 230 patients currently in hospitals, which is 23 fewer patients from the race day, and among those 72 in the intensive care unit, or five less, and in the intensive care unit, 42 patients use a ventilator.
The average number of deaths was 4 per day during the past week, which represents a 57 percent decrease compared to the average of the previous week .. The daily number of new deaths decreased steadily during the past week, and the highest daily number was 13 deaths on August 11, the highest number since 22.
