The Covid-19 pandemic shook the status quo of society to its core. Staying and working from home became the norm. Almost everything we considered normal had now changed, to the point that even school became virtual. But the curve is now flattened, and cases have dropped around the world and in the United Arab Emirates. Hence, it seems that we as a society are itching to go back to normal, and a big part of this is our children going back to school.
Nurseries and schools all around the UAE are preparing to welcome back students as the back-to-school season is upon us. This means that parents are now gearing up to get their toddlers to school. So, what should these parents keep in mind before sending their tiny little angels back into the world?
Here is an abridged list of some things to keep in mind.
1. Prepare your kids mentally
Talk to your kid so they know what they should expect on their first day of school/nursery. Collaborate with your kid and help them with their preparation. Plan how your kid will reach their school for their first day, what they will do, and how the school day will end. It is essential that you remain very supportive and positive.
2. Importance of self – sanitization
Parents ought to prepare their toddlers for sanitisation as they are going to the nursery school for the first time. Get your kid their very own sanitizer spray. Explain to your toddler the importance of sanitation and cleanliness at home so that when they interact with their classmates, they are safe.
3. Sleep tight
Put your toddler on a proper sleep pattern that will work for school. This will help you put your child on a proper schedule.
4. Plan your week ahead of time
As a parent, don’t undermine the importance of planning ahead while keeping you and your kid’s changing routine in mind. Sit down and think things through. The more you plan out the week and keep things prepared, the simpler it will be on school days.
5. Mask Up
Teach your toddler the importance of wearing a mask and hand sanitization at home. Make it a regular practice at home. If possible, get them a unique quirky mask to avoid mix-ups and add some pizzazz to their outfit. Don’t forget to pack some extras though, in case they get clumsy and misplace it.
6. Social Distancing
Schools/Nurseries should focus on teaching your toddler about the importance of social distancing. It is also necessary for them to enforce this vigilantly because it can be difficult for the kids to remain socially distant.
Parting Words
We understand that it is hard for both the parent as well as the toddler to stay apart from each other. Separation anxiety is very normal especially after spending every waking moment during the pandemic holed up together. So, it is important that you pace yourself and don’t rush into making any big changes.
All the Best!
